San Ramon offers passport renewal and ordering services.

If you are planning to travel abroad this summer, and your passport needs to be ordered or renewed, this is the time to start the process.  It is currently taking about 2 months to process a new passport.

Ordering a passport for the first time.

  • APPLICATIONS MUST BE TYPED OR PRINTED USING BLACK INK
  • ACCEPTED FORMS OF PAYMENT: Personal checks, cashiers checks, or money orders only; SEPARATE payments go to the Department of State and to the City of San Ramon respectively. See passport fee schedules below for details.
  • For complete information on all REQUIRED forms and documents, you need to bring to your appointment, go to http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/apply.html

Don’t forget to make an appointment.  Follow these instructs per the San Ramon City website.

  • The City does not process renewal forms (DS-82) for adults. These are mail-in forms.
  • The system will automatically show the first available time slot.

What does it cost?

New passports range $80 for minors to $110 for adults.  Renewals by mail are $110 for adults.  Minors cannot renew by mail.  All passports processed through the City of San Ramon are charged an extra $35 fee.

How long does it take for a passport to be renewed?

Currently, the U.S. Department of State is reporting that new passport requests are taking 4-6 weeks.  This does not include another 7 days for shipping.

Freddie Mac lays out the advantages of pre-approval in the ‘My Home’ section of their website:

“It’s highly recommended that you work with your lender to get pre-approved before you begin house hunting. Pre-approval will tell you how much home you can afford and can help you move faster, and with greater confidence, in competitive markets.”

One of the many advantages of working with a local real estate professional is that many have relationships with lenders who will be able to help you with this process. Once you have selected a lender, you will need to fill out their loan application and provide them with important information regarding “your credit, debt, work history, down payment and residential history.”

Freddie Mac describes the ‘4 Cs’ that help determine the amount you will be qualified to borrow:

  1. Capacity: Your current and future ability to make your payments
  2. Capital or cash reserves: The money, savings, and investments you have that can be sold quickly for cash
  3. Collateral: The home, or type of home, that you would like to purchase
  4. Credit: Your history of paying bills and other debts on time

Getting pre-approved is one of many steps that will show home sellers that you are serious about buying, and it often helps speed up the process once your offer has been accepted.

Looking for an environmentally sensitive way to recycle your Christmas tree in San Ramon?  The City of San Ramon offers 3 different options.

Christmas Recycle

1.) The Boy Scouts of America Annual Fundraiser
The Boy Scouts annual tree pickup day is Saturday, January 6,  2018.  Leave your tree (untrimmed and cleared of all ornaments) on the curb.  For a $10 donation, the local Boy Scouts will pick up your tree.  The troop asks that you make out your check to BSA Troop 834 and leave it in an envelope under the doormat.  To make accommodations, go to  www.sanramonscouts.org or e-mail Trees@sanramonscouts.org.

2.) Waste Management Yard Trimmings / Green Waste Cart
Waste Management will haul away your tree as long as it is cut into lengths that will easily fit into the yard trimmings cart.  Make sure the lid can close completely. You may place tree pieces into cart any time after holidays.

3.) Special One-Time Tree Pickup Week of January 8, 2018
The week of January 8, Waste Management will come by and dispose of all trees set out on the curb.  They ask that you trim larger trees into lengths of 6 feet or less.

Trees with flocking, tinsel, or tree stands: Call Waste Management at (925) 837-3356 to arrange for collection for an additional pickup fee.

San Ramon Education Fund Run for Education- Oct. 1, 2017

The San Ramon Valley Education Fund’s Run for Education, is coming up October 1, 2017.   Come join San Ramon, Danville and Alamo families and neighbors at this great outdoor activity.  The event is a terrific way to exercise, socialize and gather as a family or with friends in San Ramon’s beautiful Bishop Ranch.

For 34 years, the Run for Education, or formally known as the Primos Run, has been raising money for various education projects within the SRVUSD.  This year, the event is supported by Sports Basement https://shop.sportsbasement.com/, The Studio https://www.thestudiolife.com/, and Club Sport http://www.clubsportsr.com/Club/Scripts/Home/home.asp.  The Foundation raises over 7 million dollars a year to support and fund programs throughout the  San Ramon Valley Unified School District.  This years event is destined to be the biggest and best event to date.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIR, SEPT. 30

Iron Horse Middle School is hosting this year’s Run for Education Health and Wellness Fair on Sept. 30 from 10am-4pm.  https://www.srvef.org/The-Run-For-Education/Health-and-Wellness-Expo/  Come and enjoy the entertainment from local chorus and band performances on stage.

Last year’s vendor booths included: Stanford Children’s Health, Sports Basement, Whole Foods, East Bay ABA, Cruise Planners, Tri-Valley Orthodontics, Fallon Dental, SF Bay Gourmet Coffee and Bright Horizons. The San Ramon Valley Education Foundation will earn funds towards the collection of clothing, shoes and accessories for the donation drive to Savers.  A few of the Food Vendors included: Crème Si Bon, Cream and Iron Horse Kettle Korn.  Kids can enjoy the carnival games and an inflatable jumpy before the Mini Run at 4 PM.
